  • Thank You Kids!

    July 17, 2010

OK, somewhere below I posted a blog about the kids washing their paintbrushes in our garden pond last year, turning the waterfall white!  As I looked over the lawn today, I had to stop and remember that they do all the maintenance of the gardens: Mowing, trimming, weeding, helping mom with watering, etc. etc. etc.  So I thought I'd post a picture of their work tonight together with a huge THANK YOU KIDS!  Dad

  • PhaseOne Medium Format Camera

    June 15, 2010

Mamiya Camera, Schneider Lenses and Leaf medium format back manufactures have teamed up with Phase One to make our new studio camera.  The Phase One joined our family of equipment in May of this year and has proven itself to be superior in sharpness, clarity and dynamic range (a fancy term for the ability to record more detail in shadowed areas of a portrait).  The medium format sensor is over 2X the size of any 35mm equipment, even full-frame 35mm.

  • New Emerald Garden Background

    February 23, 2010

Abigail, Karen and I put this new background to a quick test the other day and are liking what we see thus far.  I even featured it in the background of our latest color brochure advertising children's portraiture.  The tones are so warm and soft.  This is going to turn into a classic background here at Graham Photo.

  • Going Retro in Studio B

    Friday, June 5, 2009
We have been blessed with the addition of a new camera room this year, "Studio B."  Our main camera room has been upgraded (thank you Roger Pahl of Pahl and Kaye Homes) with more window light and a cleaner, fresher and less cluttered look.  Studio B is its opposite!  This is where the old pianos and retro sofas from Craigslist finds are accumulating.

Logan and Lauren were great sports this morning and let us practice on them in studio B with this latest Craigslist find.  I love the oranges and reds that blend as only decor of the 70s could accomplish.

When I handed over my $50 to the Craigslist seller (a former senior at Graham Photo!) and turned to lift it, I regretted my purchase for a moment.  It was a Hide-a-bed!  A BEAST!  But when we removed the mattress, I found that the mattress cover has a harmonious tone with deeper reds and would itself make an incredible background (pictured here).

  • Another Lovely New Background... :)

One of the joys of working at a portriat studio! We took a break this afternoon to test out a new background that Tim installed this week.  It looks B-E-A-UTIFUL and I could not be happier with how it came together!

And a thank you to our awesome office manager, Stacy, who is always willing to model and test out new ideas. ;)

  • More Springtime Projects

    Monday, May 25, 2009
Kenzie is in the process of painting the playhouse.  This is the first blue we tried.  She wanted a grayer (more historic) blue, but dad tried thie powder blue.  Turns out Kenzie was right and has since repainted.  Dad is now doing the trim work.  We'll try to post an updated pic in a few weeks.

  • Graham Kids Sprucing Up!

    April 18, 2009

It's spring!  Time to spruce things up.  For the Graham kids, that begins with their playhouse and whitewashing the picket fence!  Mackenzie is taking the lead to decide what colors the playhouse proper should be painted this year.  Once side is definitely going to be some kind of blue.

Tim loves this project.  Every time he paints in or around the home he gets tons of volunteers to "help."  With the fence, they can go to town without fear of spills, drips or blotches and get it out of their system.  But it doesn't stop the arguing when they want to help on the next home project.  After fence painting, the kids are persuaded that they are now eminently qualified to tackle ANY painting project, perhaps moreso than dad.

    - Evening Update:  OK, so I'm walking past the waterfall pond which I cleaned last week over a 3-day period (two days to siphen, powerwash and resiphen and one day to refill the pond).  What do I see?  The formerly crystal-clear water has become milky white.  The younger three kids washed their paint-coated hands in the waterfalls of my clean pond!  ARGH!!!  Guess I know how my week will begin next week  }:-}
